Our journey begins in Lisbon, with pickup directly from your hotel or accommodation. From there, we’ll head to the historic city of Évora to visit the iconic Roman Temple of Évora—often (though mistakenly) called the Temple of Diana, named after the Roman goddess of the moon and the hunt. This ancient monument, located in the heart of Évora’s historic center, stands as one of the most important and well-preserved Roman landmarks in Portugal. Recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, the temple reflects the rich cultural legacy of both the Roman and Lusitanian civilizations in the region.
Cathedral of ÉvoraThe Cathedral of Évora is a Roman Catholic church in the city of Évora, Portugal. It is one of the oldest and most important local monuments, lying on the highest spot of the city. It is part of the historical city centre, and the seat of the Archdiocese of Evora.
Chapel of BonesThe Capela dos Ossos, or Chapel of Bones, is one of Évora’s most iconic and intriguing landmarks. Located beside the entrance of the Church of St. Francis, this small chapel leaves a lasting impression with its haunting yet fascinating decor—its interior walls are entirely lined and adorned with real human skulls and bones. Built in the 16th century by a Franciscan monk, the chapel was intended to provoke reflection on the transience of life and the inevitability of death.
Praça do Giraldo: Here you can make your LunchPraça do Giraldo stands as a historic tribute to Geraldo Geraldes, known as “the Fearless,” who famously reclaimed Évora from Moorish control in 1167. In recognition of his bravery, King Afonso Henriques appointed him mayor of the city and chief border commander of the Alentejo region, where he played a key role in further conquests. Today, the square remains a central symbol of Évora’s proud and storied past.
Royal Palace of ÉvoraThe Royal Palace of Évora, also known as the Royal Palace of São Francisco and the Palace of King Manuel I, is a former royal residence of the Kings of Portugal, in Évora, the capital of Alentejo. The palace has its origins in a convent built in the 13th century.
Almendres CromlechThe Cromlech of the Almendres is a megalithic complex, located 4.5 road km WSW of the village of Nossa Senhora de Guadalupe, in the civil parish of Nossa Senhora da Tourega e Nossa Senhora de Guadalupe, municipality of Évora, in the Portuguese Alentejo.
